Kris Shaw has been an on off resident of Koh Samui for over 4 years now so Samui Fitness took the opportunity to meet up with Kris and ask him a few questions about his life and how he became involved in the deadly Martial arts.

 

 As a young child Kris has always been into fighting, from starting his career in the boxing ring and accomplishing his 2nd Dan at such a young age Kris is one of the future stars to be following in the international fighting arena!! He has already won numerous Muay Thai and MMA bouts and has taken his fights pretty much all over the world now. 

 

Check out his latest interview below...we will be keeping a close eye on such a young and upcoming star in the world of MMA, even more so knowing he is an expat from our very own Koh Samui.

 

So Kris, tell our readers a little bit about yourself,

 

Where do you come from?

 

Im from London England

 

Did you do any martial arts in the UK, if so what where they?

 

Yeh i started martial arts wen i was 4 years old first starting out with the Japanese art Shotokan Karate which i currently hold a 2nd Dan black belt in, also boxing  MMA, MMA wasn’t huge in the UK when i Left but it has grown massively since my time away, will look forward to competing there again soon.

 

What made you come to Thailand?

 

My friends came travelling fell in love with Koh Samui and asked me to go back with them and i fell in love with the place too and couldn’t bring myself to leave.

 

Did you come to train in Muay Thai and MMA?

 

Not originally but once i klnew i was going to base myself here thats all that was on my mind.

 

How did you get involved in the sport?

 

My Dad Trevor Shaw was my gateway into it he was my Sensei from when i was young boy he tought me all my originals knowledge of martial arts.

 

Have you fought anywhere else in the world?

 

Yes i have fought in many parts of the world now most continents

 

Who is your biggest inspiration?

 

My Dad Trevor Shaw is my biggest inspiration

 

What was your hardest fight, or hardest opponent?

 

Actually i recently fought a morrocan man who was 40 kg heavier than me, that was pretty hard but i manage to win via knockout in the 2nd round but probally hit the hardest ive been hit.

 

What’s your favourite strike/submission to use in any fight?

 

I like to straight out box but i have to say i have a killer left hook but keep that to yourself

 

Do you like to stand with your opponents or take them to the ground?

 

Im prodomently a stand up man i prefer  to keep the fight up top but i don’t mind if it has to go to the ground either

 

What does it mean to you to be a fighter?

 

It means everything i couldn’t think of anything i would rather do .

 

Which team are you training with in preparation for your next fight, where will it be and who against?

 

I am training with Maximum Combat Center  Patong Beach Phuket, i am looking to go to china next to see what  they have to offer got some hard fights lined up over there.

 

What separates you from any other fighter in your division?

 

I would say just my will to win it doesn’t matter how much the cards are down i will keep going, if you come to watch me you will see a a real fight all on the line stuff.

 

If you could have one dream fight, who would it be with?

 

Would have to be GSP  have to be, would be an honor

 

What do you want to be remembered for at the end of your career?

 

Well i hope its a while away yet, i hope to be remember for being a real fighter not just there for the show.

 

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

 

On the front of all the magazines and on all your TV’s HAHA

 

Would you like to become a trainer and help others reach the same achievements as you have?

 

I have actually been training people for many years now and i get nearly the same satisfaction seeing people progress as i do when i fight.... Nearly
